3 VR Headsets We are Looking Forward to in 2020

With so many cool headset releases in 2019, it stands to reason that 2020 VR headsets game will be a bit quieter in terms of revolutionary technology. The leading names in the VR industry will take a moment to breathe and regroup, perhaps put out an upgrade or two for their already existing headsets, and then hit us with better-performing gadgets later on.

However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few existing headsets we should mention. These stand out among the rest in terms of specs and performance and will get some interesting upgrades in the new year.

We have purposefully put Oculus Quest at number 1 on this list of upcoming VR headsets, as we have patiently awaited the biggest new VR headset coming out in 2020, the Business Quest version! Read more on that in the latest update bellow!

Facebook’s Oculus Quest is truly a headset to beat. With its wire-free construction and easy portability, not to mention the vast choice of apps on the platform, it’s no wonder this is a fan-favorite. And two impending upgrades, one of which has already started rolling out at the end of 2019, will make it even better.

Namely, Oculus Quest is the first commercial headset to include hand tracking in their experience. That’s right – not more pesky controllers to get the hang of. With the Quest, all you need to do is slip on that headset and use your own hands for anything you want to do in the game. Talk about a truly immersive experience.

The second upgrade that gives the Quest a slight edge even over other Oculus headsets such as Rift S and Go is Oculus Link. This is a feature that will allow the Quest to connect to the PC and use all the games that are currently available only for Rift. With the Quest, you get a relatively inexpensive, untethered experience that combines uncomplicated hardware and supercool gaming apps like none other before.

On the 22nd of May, Oculus has finally announced that their Industry Grade VR Enterprise platform, Oculus for Business they have been working on for some time now is openly available!

The ‘business ready’ version of Oculus Quest comes in at a $1000 price tag, and now it’s available for everyone. What differentiates the consumer and the business version of Quest is that the business version is adapted for businesses which want the most out of Quests portability and it’s ability to provide easy use for apps providing training, data visualization, remote collaboration and more. The business version of Quest (128GB) includes special software, which includes a different interface inside the headset, licences and Oculus’ support for enterprises.

One of the main benefits of the Business Quest is that the new software for backend management allows IT departments to easily manage a whole fleet of Quest devices in a bulk. That way through the new software, the IT department can configure the headsets, deploy app updates, manage settings and check the status of each headset.

Oculus Go is a competitor in terms of price. You won’t get a headset this high in performance at this low of a price anywhere else. For a VR beginner, the Go is a great starting point for their journey, as it offers all the basics, they need to master gaming in virtual reality.

It is standalone, meaning you don’t need a phone or a PC to access its wide app database, and its spatial audio system truly transports you into another dimension. The Oculus Go is easy to carry with you anywhere you want, and it comes with controllers that are just as portable.

The only downside to the Go is that it doesn’t offer room-scale tracking. With this headset, you are sentenced to a sit-down experience, which might diminish the impact of VR. In addition to that, its battery life is somewhere around two hours, which may not be enough for all your gaming needs.

HTC Focus Plus is a great headset, with one little caveat: it’s not made for gaming. HTC Focus, in general, is marketed as an enterprise headset, meaning geared towards companies looking to educate and train their employees in a variety of skills. Which is more than okay, since not all headsets can or should be focused solely on the entertainment industry.

This headset comes with two six-degrees-of-freedom controllers and an AMOLED display with a resolution that is absolutely out of this world. It offers you a better 360-degree visual experience and is great for training simulations. On top of that, the Focus Plus also comes with multiple headset monitoring, meaning it is perfect for teamwork.

If you’re looking for a VR headset to use in your free time for gaming, then the Focus Plus is not for you. However, if you’re looking for cool new hardware to introduce to your workplace and perhaps kick-off an amazing training program for your employees, then look no further.

In terms of potential new VR headsets in 2020, there have been some rumors going around.

Apple, for example, is said to be working on a secret project both for virtual and augmented reality, under the code name T288. Their AR glasses had a tentative release year of 2020, but now that seems to have been pushed back to 2022.

Additionally, some believe that Sony is hard at work building a VR headset to match its PS5 launch that may happen sometime in 2021.

Bear in mind, however, that this is all from the rumor mill, and none of these dates – or even these projects – have been officially confirmed. Until they are, enjoy the headsets we already have, with some swanky new upgrades they get along the way.
